01. Catch A Cod Where The Two Rivers Meet.
The word Walgett means "meeting of the two rivers," which precisely describes the town's location.
The river junction is a popular spot for recreational swimming, boating and is an ideal spot for fishing, there's a good chance of reeling in a Yellowbelly or even a big Murray Cod.

02. Walk The Walford Track Along The Namoi River.
The Walford Track is a 1.5 km scenic walk which includes the historic first settler’s grave on the Namoi River. There are also several parks conducive to walking and hiking around Walgett.

03. Discover Local Flaura & Fauna.
If your into nature theres allways a chance of spotting something out of the ordinary, whether it be native flowers like the darling lily a shingle back lizard or a large lace monitor, Iconic animals such as the emu and kangaroo are in abundance as well as other marsupials such as possums, wombats and ecidnas, you might even spot a koala, There are over 162 species of bird that live in the area including red tailed black cockatoo and the magestic wedge tailed eagle.

04. Go for a Round of Golf or a Hit of Tennis.
The Walgett and District Sporting Club offers excellent facilities for tennis, golf and bowling.

05. Rejuvenate Yourself In The Artesian Spring Baths.
The Artesian Bore Baths can be found in Walgett, as well as locations at Lightning Ridge and Burren Junction.

06. Fossick for a Rare Black Opal.
Black OpalThe Grawin, Glengarry and Sheepyard Opal Fields are located north-west of Walgett via the tiny village of Cumborah which is 48 km north-west of Walgett along a sealed road, obtain a map, directions and an update on road conditions from the shire office in Walgett before departing.

07. Experience the Diversity of the Macquarie Marshes.
The Macquarie Marshes are an extensive wetland system covering an area of 220,000 hectares in north-west New South Wales, representing one of the largest semi-permanent wetlands in south-eastern Australia.

08. Take a Drive to Narran Lake.
Narran Lake, 96 km west, is one of Australia's largest natural inland lakes and has an abundance of animal and birdlife. It is an ideal location for birdwatching but there are no facilities and it is on private property so access is by prior arrangement only (contact the Walgett Shire Council Offices on 02 6828 1399).

09. Stop a while at Burren Junction.
The local population is renowned for its ability to turn on really great celebrations and the two establishments that cater for such social events are the Junction City hotel and the R.S.L. and Sporting Club..

10. Spend a Day in Lightning Ridge.
located 75 km north of Walgett, Lightning Ridge is an opal mining settlement which has acheived legendary status.
